What is Agentic AI?
Agentic AI is the umbrella term for AI systems where the LLM is the controller, not just a responder. Where a chatbot answers what you ask, an agentic system pursues a goal: research a topic, write a report, debug a codebase, process a stack of invoices.
The defining trait is **autonomy across multiple steps**. The system decides what to do next, runs tools, observes results, and iterates. Most production agentic systems run for seconds to minutes per task and call several tools.
Agentic AI is the dominant Gen AI investment thesis of 2026. Anthropic, OpenAI, Google all anchor their roadmaps around it; Indian product companies are hiring agent engineers at a premium over generic Gen AI engineers.
